ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reiterated its stance against the proposed constitutional amendments, terming them unlawful and unjust.

In a statement, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja said that the the PTI will continue to protest across the country, as it is ‘our fundamental right’.

He said that the PTI will hold a nationwide protest on Friday, saying that the party will oppose the constitutional amendments.

Salman Akram Raja turned down the impression of grouping in the party ranks, adding that differences of opinion within any party are natural.

The PTI leader said that this parliament lacks the authority to make constitutional amendments. “The way constitutional amendments are being passed is flawed,” he added.

Salman Akram Raja also praised Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, stating that PTI agreed with his proposed draft.

“The PTI will oppose any attempts to create Supreme Court benches or divisions based on favourtism,” Raja warned.

The Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, announced that protests will be held in every district and city across the country for the release of PTI founder, party leaders and workers.

Gandapur made an appeal to the public, emphasizing the need to stand against what he termed as unconstitutional amendments.

He warned that if the nation remains silent today, future generations will suffer the consequences. He added, “We must raise our voices now to protect our rights and the future of our children.”

In a direct message to ‘decision-makers’, Gandapur cautioned against making choices that go against national interests, stating that those responsible will eventually be held accountable for the damage caused by their decisions.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government enforced Section 144 across the province for two days, effective from Friday, October 18.

According to the notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, all kinds of protests, processions, and public activities have been banned during this period.

The government stated that public gatherings and rallies could become soft targets for potential terrorist attacks, prompting the implementation of the ban.

The notification further mentioned that the decision was made to protect law and order, human lives, and property amid growing concerns over security risks.

Public safety remains the top priority as the province takes precautionary measures to avoid any potential incidents.

WATCH: Cameraman imitates Sajid Khan’s celebration in second Test

Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan brought Pakistan back into the second PAK v ENG Test after taking three quick wickets to leave England in trouble.

Day 2 of the game saw Ben Duckett scoring a century to keep the visitors alive as he shared a 52-run stand with Ollie Pope (29) before the latter was bowled by Sajid Khan.

The off-spinner dismissed the in-form batter Joe Root on 34, and in the next over, he also ended Duckett’s stellar knock at 114.

Harry Brook also fell prey to Sajid Khan five balls after Duckett’s dismissal.

The quick strikes left England struggling on 239-6 at Stumps on Day 2 of the second PAK v ENG Test in Multan.

Sajid Khan had figures of 19-1-86-4 at Stumps on Day 2.

However, the highlight of the spinner’s outing was his celebration after rattling Harry Brook’s stumps and bringing out the thigh-five celebration, which soon went viral.

He was joined by the cameraperson in the celebration as a viral video showed him also imitating the Pakistan off-spinner’s celebration.

Apart from Khan, left-arm spinner Noman Ali also contributed to dismantling the England top order as he picked up the wickets of Zak Crawley and Ben Stokes to finish with figures of 21-4-75-2.

Jamie Smith (12*) and Brydon Carse (2*) will resume England’s innings on Day 3 of the second PAK v ENG Test.

The visitors lead the three-match Test series 1-0 after beating Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs last week at the same venue.

JUI-F, PPP chiefs discuss constitutional amendment with Sharif brothers

LAHORE: The bigwigs of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) are holding a detailed discussion on the proposed 26th constitutional amendment, ARY News reported.

The meeting is being held at the Jati Umra, the Sharif brothers’ residence in Lahore, attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and others.

During the meeting, three different drafts of the constitutional amendments—each presented by three parties—. PPP’s Khursheed Shah, who heads the parliament’s special committee on the constitutional amendment, also presented the recommendations.

The federal government is intending to present the constitutional amendments in the National Assembly on Thursday for which the lower house session has already been called. PM Shehbaz will also hold a luncheon for coalition parties ahead of the National Assembly sitting.

Earlier on Tuesday, the JUI-F and PPP reached an agreement on constitutional amendments following their meeting in Karachi.

This was disclosed by JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari while addressing a joint presser.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that his party and PPP agreed on the draft of constitutional amendments, hailing Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the consensus.

The JUI-F chief however rejected the government’s initial proposed constitutional amendments, terming them unacceptable. He stressed the need for non-controversial constitutional amendments, saying that the nation, constitution, and parliament require a united voice.

Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the PML-N will also be invited to support the draft finalised by the JUI-F and PPP.

“We will try to include PML-N in this consensus,” Bhutto Zardari said, emphasising that the agreement between PPP and JUI-F will serve as the foundation for future negotiations.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the goal is to resolve public issues, rather than focusing on individual interests or timing.

Baba Siddique killing: Fourth suspect arrested in the case

The Mumbai Police has claimed to have arrested the fourth suspect in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

According to Indian media outlets, the suspect identified as Harishkumar Balakram was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich and was charged with conspiracy, providing money and logistical support to the shooters of the politician.

Balakram became the fourth individual to be arrested after Gurmail Baljit Singh and Dharm Rajesh Kashyap were arrested on October 11, the day Siddique was shot dead while Shiv Kumar Gautam, who fired shots at the NCP leader, escaped after the shooting.

Reports had said that Gautam, in the past, had been proudly flaunting his ‘gangster’ status on social site Instagram.

In an Instagram post by Shiv Kumar Gautam, from July 24, which sees the murder suspect standing by a motorcycle, he had captioned, “Yaar tera gangster hai jaani (your friend is a gangster),” whereas, in a post before, shared on 8th of the same month, “Sharif baap hai, hum nahin (my father is an honourable man, not me).”

It is not to be noted that Pravin Lonkar, a ‘co-conspirator’ of Siddique’s murder, was arrested from Pune on October 13, as per reports.

Mumbai claimed to have recovered two pistols from the apprehended accused while searching for the absconding three accused including Shubham Lonkar, Shiv Kumar Gautam and Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar.

Baba Siddique, famous for hosting Iftar dinners every year, sustained bullet injuries in his chest as three rounds were fired at him while he was bursting crackers outside his office on October 11.

He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 65-year-old NCP leader was a prominent Muslim political figure in Maharashtra who held positions as minister for Labor, FDA, and Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies.

The slain politician was known for his close ties with the Bollywood actors including Salman Khan who visited the Lilavati Hospital where Siddique was brought after he was shot.

PTI founder undergoes medical checkup at Adiala Jail

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that party founder Imran Khan has undergone a medical checkup at Adiala Jail, ARY news reported.

In a statement issued here, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that he was informed by the government about Imran Khan’s medical checkup at Adiala Jail. The PTI chairman, citing the government’s sources, said that two doctors, an ENT specialist, and a medical expert examined Imran Khan at about 4 pm.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that the medical team confirmed that Imran Khan is in good health and even exercised for an hour.

The PTI chairman expressed gratitude to all PTI workers and supporters who were concerned about his health. “We Will get the medical reports and share them with the public soon,” he added.

It may be noted here that the PTI postponed its protest scheduled at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on October 15 after the government assured a medical examination for PTI founder.

The decision to postpone the protest was made during a meeting of PTI’s political committee, according to sources.

The PTI’s political committee postponed its protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit which being held in the capital city from October 15 and 16.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that his party decided to postpone its ‘peaceful’ protest following an official contact from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on behalf of the government.

Barrister Gohar said that the government assured a medical examination for PTI founder Imran Khan, and restoration of access to his physician.

FBR launches crackdown on tax evaders

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) launched a nationwide crackdown on tax evasion and fraud, resulting in the arrest of five individuals.

Speaking to ARY News, FBR Spokesman Bakhtiar Muhammad said that the Chief Financial Officer of a prominent battery manufacturer has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in over Rs. 1 billion sales tax fraud.

The Chief Financial Officer of a major textile unit in Faisalabad was also arrested for his alleged involvement in millions of rupees worth of sales tax evasion, the FBR spokesman added.

Bakhtiar Muhammad said that the third suspect was arrested for allegedly evading billions of rupees of tax fraud.

He said that suspects were arrested after bails were rejected by the court.

Earlier, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Thursday revealed details of yearly tax theft in Pakistan.

The minister revealed that tax evasion in Pakistan stands at nearly Rs7,000 bln annually. He said steps are afoot to broaden the tax net and bring reforms to the tax system of Pakistan.

The minister also announced the ‘war against tax evaders’ in Pakistan and admitted all the burden of taxes is being beard by the salary class of the country.

Aurangzeb also said they are trying to increase tax share in the economy to 13.5.

It may be noted here that the FBR spokesperson earlier said that the body is all set to bring around 2.8 million potential households into the tax net that would contribute approximately Rs1.6 trillion to the national economy.

“There are around 3.5 million top households liable to pay taxes to the government, however out of which 2.8 million are not paying taxes,” Spokesperson of the FBR, Bakhtiar Muhammad told APP

Disney announces new ‘Tron’ PC, console video game

Disney has announced its new PC and console video game to continue the story of Arq Grid, first introduced in 2023’s puzzle game “Tron: Identity.”

The studio plans to launch the game titled, “Disney Tron: Catalyst” next year as Disney continues to boost its video game lineup, according to a report by Variety.

Digital’s Big Fan Games, Bithell Games and Disney Games have collaborated to develop the game described as “a thrilling, story-driven isometric action game” that continues the story of Arq Grid.

Per the game’s official description, “In ‘Disney Tron: Catalyst’, players are introduced to Exo, a highly resilient and resourceful program with an incredible ability to initiate time loops. With this newfound power, Exo takes on the overlords of a crumbling Grid all while evading Conn, a malevolent agent of CORE. Exo must gain control over her mysterious abilities and uncover the unexplained ‘Glitch’ that threatens the Grid. As Exo, players will battle on-foot and on Light Cycle to complete missions and gain crucial insights that will help them on their quest. While learning from her mistakes, Exo will also need to navigate warring factions to unlock new paths and uncover the secrets of the Arq Grid.”

Disney has, in the past, released Ubisoft’s “Star Wars Outlaws,” while it plans to release Skydance-produced “Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra” game and “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” from Xbox’s Bethesda.

The announcement came weeks after Netflix announced a new video game titled, “Carmen Sandiego” produced by “Disney Dreamlight Valley” maker Gameloft and HarperCollins Production.

The animated game will first launch on the streaming platform exclusively in early 2025 and will later arrive across gaming platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.

KARACHI: The police officials involved in the mistreatment with journalists in Karachi have been identified, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The DIG South, Asad Raza, confirmed that departmental action is underway against the police officials responsible for the violent behavior with journalists, which has sparked outrage within the media community.

DIG South condemned the ill-treatment, stating that such actions against journalists, especially after they are showing their identities, are unacceptable.

“Strict action will be taken against the police officials involved in the ill-treatment,” Raza said, stressing that the South Zone Police stands firmly against any form of violence against journalists.

He also highlighted the strong relationship between the police and the journalist community, comparing their bond to “Choli Daman” (inseparable).

Raza assured that such behavior will not be tolerated at any level, reaffirming the police’s commitment to ensuring accountability and maintaining respectful treatment of media personnel in the future.

Earlier in the day, the law enforcers while dispersing the protestors outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) behave violently with some journalists.

Student commits suicide at Punjab University Hostel

Student commits suicide, Punjab University Hostel

LAHORE: A fifth-semester student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) department allegedly committed suicide in her room at Punjab University’s hostel, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The student named Umme Habiba – residing at Punjab University’s hostel number 08 in room number 74 with her sister – took her own life after hanging herself with the ceiling fan of her friend’s hostel room number 91.

The warden of the hostel after breaking the door of the room found the girl’s body hanging with the ceiling fan.

Authorities were alerted after the incident, prompting the arrival of lady police, who initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death of the student.

Earlier in the day, Punjab police on Sunday arrested a security guard of a private college located in the Gulberg area of Lahore for allegedly raping a student.

As per the DIG Operations, the accused guard involved in the rape incident went into hiding after the news of the incident went viral on social media.

The police managed to arrest the accused security guard of the private college within 10 hours of the incident from another city – the outskirts of Lahore.

The spokesperson added that efforts to locate the victim and her family, as well as legal proceedings, are underway.

KARACHI: The Karachi administration has imposed section 144 of criminal procedure across the city for four days, ARY News reported on Saturday. 

Commissioner Karachi imposed Section 144 on the recommendation of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon citing potential threats to peace.

A notification has also been issued, reading that the ban is imposed on gatherings of five or more people, processions, and public meetings. To maintain law and order and ensure public safety, The ban will be in effect from October 13 to October 17.

It may be noted here that in his letter, the IGP Sindh requested imposition of Section 144 citing potential threats to peace. The provincial police chief said that.

The protests and rallies may disrupt peace and cause inconvenience to citizens.

Earlier, the Punjab Home Ministry imposed section 144 in five districts of Punjab for three days.

As per details, the notification stated that there will be a blanket ban on all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins and rallies in Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur and Kot Addu districts during the period.

Moreover, the ban has been imposed with immediate effect and will last till October 15 to ensure security as public gathering becomes soft target of miscreants.

The development came at the time when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced another protest demonstration at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on October 15, the day when Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit is set to kick-off.
