Petroleum prices likely to go down by Rs5.30

Petroleum prices, go down

ISLAMABAD: The prices of petroleum products are likely to reduce by up to Rs5.30 per litre in line with the decrease in international oil prices, ARY News reported Friday quoting sources.

A well-placed source informed ARY News that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is working on a proposal to decrease fuel prices.

According to a summary forwarded to the finance ministry by OGRA, Rs5.30 per litre decrease has been recommended in the price of high-speed diesel, while the price of petrol is likely to go down by Rs0.50 per litre.

Following the Prime Minister’s approval, the Ministry of Finance will issue a formal notification announcing the revised prices. If approved, the new prices will come into effect from March 1.

Meanwhile, the federal government has planned to deregulate petroleum product prices, a move that has been met with resistance from the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association.

In a letter to Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik, the association expressed concerns that deregulation would lead to an increase in the sale of smuggled Iranian oil and non-standard fuel in the country.

The association argued that deregulation would compromise the investments made by petroleum dealers, who have invested billions in the sector. They emphasized that any decision should be made in consultation with stakeholders, as was previously agreed upon.

Under the proposed plan, oil marketing companies (OMCs) would be allowed to sell fuel at competitive prices, enabling them to increase their market share. A price ceiling would be established to ensure price stability.

Additionally, the government plans to permit oil refineries to blend up to 5% ethanol in petroleum products to reduce fuel costs.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has urged the minister to engage in talks with the association to address their concerns.

Nawaz Sharif, political crises, Pakistan’s Progress, Pakistan Muslim League (N)

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif said that the prosperity of the people and uplifting Pakistan’s progress to the ranks of developed nations is the agenda of his party, ARY News reported.

He made these remarks during a meeting with party leaders from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province which he referred to as the “heart of Pakistan”. Nawaz Sharif said that the country’s progress is often derailed by political crises.

Nawaz Sharif acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan Movement and the fight against terrorism. He reiterated that the PML-N is committed to uplifting the country’s progress and prosperity, with a focus on reforming institutions and the system.
Nawaz Sharif said that the PML-N government has taken up the challenge of steering the country out of political crises, and as a result, Pakistan’s progress towards decline has ‘halted’. He expressed optimism that the country is now on the path to progress and prosperity.

Earlier in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expanded his federal cabinet by inducting 27 new members, including some from allied parties. Thirteen federal ministers, 11 state ministers, and three advisers took the oath at a ceremony held at President House.

President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath to the new federal cabinet, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also present on the occasion. The federal cabinet now comprises 46 members.

THIS mountain gets the same legal rights as a human!

New Zealand mountain, legal rights as a human, Taranaki Maunga, viral

In a viral legal decision, New Zealand’s iconic Taranaki Maunga (Mount Taranaki) has been granted the same legal rights as a human.

This viral move comes as part of the Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Bill, passed by parliament on Thursday.

The landmark settlement aims to rectify historical injustices inflicted on the Māori people of the Taranaki region during colonization.

The viral agreement, the result of years of negotiations, recognizes the Māori worldview that natural features, like mountains, are living ancestors and grants Taranaki Maunga the right to “own itself.”

A viral collaborative management structure will oversee the mountain’s well-being, involving representatives from the eight local Iwi (tribes) and the government.

Additionally, the bill officially restores the mountain’s Māori name, Taranaki Maunga, replacing the colonial name, Mount Egmont, given by British explorer James Cook.

The surrounding national park will also revert to its Māori name.

The settlement also includes a viral formal apology from the government for the confiscation of Taranaki Maunga and over a million acres of land from local Māori in the 1860s, violating the Treaty of Waitangi.

This viral agreement marks the latest step in New Zealand’s ongoing efforts to address historical grievances with Māori, following similar moves like granting legal personhood to the Whanganui River.

In other news, Donald Trump’s order to change the name of the highest mountain in the United States faced pushback Friday from members of his own party.

Alaska’s Republican-dominated senate voted overwhelmingly against his plan to ditch the Indigenous name Denali for the huge peak, which Trump has rechristened Mount McKinley.

The president has unleashed a flood of executive orders in his first few days in the White House as he attempts to remake the US government.

Orders have included mass pardons for pro-Trump rioters, a federal hiring freeze and an attempt to overturn the constitutionally mandated practice of granting birthright citizenship.

But his order to rename the 20,300-foot (6,200-meter) Denali drew the ire of Alaska’s state legislators.

A resolution passed unanimously by the Alaska state senate on Friday urged Trump to rethink his plan.

PCB seeks ICC’s clarification after Indian anthem played at Gaddafi Stadium

pcb, icc, Indian anthem, Champions Trophy 2025

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought an explanation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) following India’s national anthem was mistakenly played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

The incident occurred during the high-voltage Australia-England clash in Champions Trophy 2025 on Saturday.

Prior to the start of the game, India’s national anthem briefly played for a second before being stopped. However, the video quickly went viral on social media.

After England’s anthem concluded, it was time for Australia’s anthem, but instead, a line from India’s anthem started playing.

Sources revealed that the error was due to the ICC, as the playlist for the Champions Trophy 2025 was prepared by the cricket governing body and included anthems of all eight participating teams, including India.

Notably, Indian team has not traveled to Pakistan and will be playing all their matches at neutral venues under the hybrid model.

During the 2024-2027 event cycle, all matches involving India in an event hosted in Pakistan will be played at a neutral venue, and in return all matches involving Pakistan in an event hosted by India will be played at a neutral venue.

This agreement applies to the 2025 men’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the 2025 women’s ODI World Cup in India, and the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka,” the report read.

The hybrid model may also apply to the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup, which has now been awarded to Pakistan and is the opening competition of the next ICC cycle.

The report added that the ICC has also said that it has no objection to the organisation of a triangular Twenty20 International tournament that includes India, Pakistan, and another Asian Full Member country (or an Associate Asian country to make it a quadrangular), provided that the competition is held at a neutral location.
