Fakhar Zaman admits Pakistan needed a wake-up call before T20 World Cup

Fakhar hammered six fours and six sixes in a 40-ball 78 against Ireland in second T20I

Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan showcased their batting prowess, each notching impressive half-centuries, steering Pakistan to a resounding seven-wicket win over Ireland in the second T20I.

Despite a shaky start, with Pakistan at 13 for two in just 1.4 overs, the experienced pair initiated a captivating partnership, amassing 140 runs for the third wicket in just 78 balls.

“Our plan was to counter attack despite losing two wickets early. There is pressure when you lose early wickets, but since we have planned to play attacking cricket, it releases all pressure,” Fakhar told PCB Digital.

Their aggressive batting, comprising 12 fours and 10 sixes, put immense pressure on the Ireland fielders and had spectators scrambling for cover.

Fakhar's blistering knock of 78 runs off 40 balls, embellished with six fours and six sixes, marked his 11th half-century in 85 matches.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Rizwan's unbeaten 75 off 46 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes, earned him the player of the match accolade, constituting his 27th half-century in 95 matches.

“Our plan was to chase the score before the 18th over,” Fakhar added.

Acknowledging the need for a turnaround following their loss in the first T20I, Fakhar emphasized, “We needed a wake-up call considering the way we lost the first game. So it was in the back of our minds while we were playing the second game and that is why everyone was giving their best,” Fakhar said.

“We hope to carry the same momentum till the World Cup,” he concluded.
